Nothing compares to the love a child has for his or her parents. And that doesn’t apply simply to human beings, but all beings as well. As a result, losing a parent is the most devastating experience a creature can have on this planet. Phil Moore, a wildlife photographer, captured some heartfelt images to prove it.

After losing its mother to poachers, this gorilla is in excruciating misery. And since the moment is so overwhelming, the poor creature finds support in one of the park’s rangers, Patrick Karabaranga, whose compassion for the orphaned gorilla is touching as well.

The shot was taken at the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Virunga National Park. A safe haven for orphaned gorillas like this one, who need to be protected from poachers.

Mountain gorillas, like many other animals, have become severely endangered as a result of widespread deforestation. Their numbers have dropped considerably in recent years. Besides that, poaching is the other human activity that threatens wildlife.

Some great conservation efforts have been made in order to restore the gorilla population and Virunga National Park can be a very positive example in this way. Here are living around 200 individuals, about a quarter of the world’s mountain gorilla population. However, there is still much to be done!
