Mona Bahraini and her husband fell in love with hens the day they acquired them four years ago. Now that they have a large flock of chickens, ducks, and a goose and reside on five acres near Sacramento, Bahraini spends a lot of time taking care of them and attempting to give them the best life possible.

Bahraini is highly in tune with environment and wildlife because she also owns and operates The Prickly Pear, a small nursery that specializes in succulents and cacti. She has been looking for methods to enrich and amuse the hens, and she has just found the coolest method of doing it.

Bahraini told The Dodo, “I was looking at different toys for them and learning about chicken enrichment recently. “An Alaskan acquaintance claims that after hanging a disco ball for her hens, they started laying more eggs because it makes them happy. Chickens and birds typically like reflecting objects.

Bahraini made the decision to give the disco ball a go and put one in the coop for the chickens. They first had some confusion when she switched it on, but they quickly got used to it and soon fell head over heels in love.

“They quickly grew enamored with all the colors,” Bahraini said. “They would just calmly stare at it and make calm chirping sounds. My goose, Ms. Harriet, was instantly into it before the rest. She stared at it as if she was looking at a shooting star. It was the cutest thing.”

After observing how much the hens like their disco party, Bahraini has been looking for new ways to improve their coop in addition to what she currently does to keep them occupied. They are undoubtedly a fortunate group of birds.

In order for them to consume their daily snacks and learn how to share, Bahraini stated, “I purchased them a picnic table so they can hop on the bench seats.”

“I have a swing for them, a chain that I hang with a tiny basket at the bottom where I put tomatoes and lettuce for them to peck at, [and] I sometimes play classical music for them since music is calming for everyone and everything,” the author said.

The chickens get to party at the disco for a few hours two to three times a week, and they have such a blast each and every time. The moral of the story? Chickens love disco. Who would have guessed?
