When a thieving squirrel commits an act, the proof is typically circumstantial at best. So this fluffy-tailed scofflaw had ample reason to think he would get away with his latest heist.
But he was mistaken.
The other day, Shanna B. brought home an ice cream cake for a friend’s birthday party being held at her house. The fridge inside was full, however, so she decided to leave the cake on her porch in the freezing air outside until the time came to serve it.
This would soon prove to have been a huge mistake.
Halfway through the party, Shanna’s partner looked out the window onto the porch and noticed that the birthday cake had been ransacked. Naturally, her thought was, “Oh no!”
Who might have perpetrated such an act? The solution quickly seemed obvious.
The squirrel was spotted on the deck rail “a split second later,” Shanna told The Dodo. Oh no! turned into hysterical laughing.
The squirrel was attempting to maintain his composure despite having blue icing on his nose.
Everyone in the house gathered at the deck entrance to watch the squirrel as it sat there virtually motionless, according to Shanna.
He had already made his mark at that point.
Indeed, the cake was too far gone at that point for the partygoers to want to eat any of it themselves. But fortunately, Shanna was able to run to the store and find a replacement.
When she returned, she noticed the squirrel was back at it near the first cake. Only this time, he’d brought a friend to share in the spoils.
It was actually kind of sweet.
The celebration was ultimately able to continue without more interruption. However, Shanna made the decision to toss the first cake so the squirrels wouldn’t consume too much and risk becoming sick.
In the future, however, Shanna vowed to think carefully before leaving any additional delectable treats outside her home unattended after accepting the truth that her yard is home to an unethical squirrel with a sweet appetite.
