An overweight 36-year-old Asian elephant was ultimately sent to a sanctuary in Cambodia after spending much of his life alone in prison. Kaavan, Pakistan’s lone Asian elephant, has spent years in deplorable circumstances in an Islamabad zoo in an unsuitable cage.

She developed a variety of ailments as a result of this, including broken and deformed nails. After his buddy died in 2012, he was dubbed “the world’s loneliest elephant.”

The terrible reality of Kaavan sparked worldwide outrage on social media, with many animal rights organizations requesting that the animals be removed from the area.

Cher learned about the elephant over Twitter and has been a part of a major push to transfer her since 2016.

According to the Smithsonian Channel, Cher said:

“I asked myself, ‘How can I solve this?’ How can I help an elephant tied to a shed for 17 years and a thousand kilometers away?

Earlier this year, the Islamabad High Court ordered the zoo to be closed due to poor conditions and the animals to be moved.

The animal welfare organization Four Paws , was authorized to organize the transfer of Kaavan , who had arrived as a gift from Sri Lanka to Pakistan, when he was just a baby.

Four Paws’ expert personnel prepared the elephant for the trip by training it to grow accustomed to the confined area into which it would be relocated, as well as the loud sounds it would encounter.

A crane placed him onto a vehicle that brought him to the Islamabad airport after he entered Kaavan in the enormous metal box. They loaded him into the plane along with 200 pounds of food, and the Russian cargo jet took off for Cambodia early the next morning.
