Shadow and her family were out for a stroll one day when a strange dog barged into their flat. She’d just walked in through the open door because she was so thrilled to see Shadow, and Shadow was equally as excited to greet her. Lupa was her name, and she lived directly down the hall from them.
Shadow and Lupa had become great friends at that point.
Now, Shadow and Lupa have playdates almost every single day. One of their parents will open the door, and whichever dog will bolt down the hallway towards her best friend’s door, knock (although sometimes Lupa opens the door all on her own) and wait patiently to be let inside. As soon as Shadow and Lupa see each other, they go nuts — every single time. They run up and down the hall and tear through each other’s apartments. Their parents are all used to it by now, and thankfully, so is everyone else.

“Our security, as well as our vet, are obsessed with their bond,” Shadow’s mother, Olivia Schwab, told The Dodo. “Our neighbors are OK with it (we live on a dog-friendly floor), and another dog has joined in the fun.”
Their families have gotten close as well, and they frequently take the girls on walks together. Shadow and Lupa like everything about their playdates, from brief two-minute hellos to hour-long hikes to one of the families babysitting both dogs for a few hours. Even though they see one other frequently, it isn’t enough for them, and they both express their dissatisfaction.
“They both bolt for the other door when we go to take them on a walk,” Schwab said.
Shadow and Lupa met by chance, and now they’re best friends — and they’re not afraid to let their entire building know about it every chance they get.
