Driving at night may be risky, especially if there are wild creatures in the area.
When you’re driving down the road, it’s nearly difficult to see one in your path until it’s too late.
This is a problem in Finland, where an estimated 4,000 reindeer are killed and $18 million is lost each year due to automobile accidents. So it was past time for someone to take action.
The Finnish Reindeer Herders Association was given the task of finding a solution. Spraying the animals with reflective paint was one of the most simple but amazing ideas.
It’s effectively the same as putting a high-visibility garment on the animal in the hopes that it would glow when the light strikes it, making it easier for a driver to detect them.
“At the present, the spray is being tried on fur, but because antlers are visible from all sides, it may be much more successful,” said Anne Ollila, chairperson of the Reindeer Herders Association.
