A Stray Dog Enters A Shelter In Need Of Help

Paige Graham’s rescue, The Isle of Misfits Farm Sanctuary, features 20 animals with severe medical requirements. She wasn’t seeking for additional rescues to take in, but one found her instead.

Graham’s mother realized the screen on the farm’s screened porch had been entirely taken away one morning when she came out into the screened porch. That struck her as odd — until she saw there was a dog on the porch, simply chilling.

Randy, the dog, was definitely in need of assistance but didn’t know how to beg for aid, so he broke into the rescue. However, when he saw Graham’s mother, he became terrified and changed his mind.

Graham told, “He raced away, but returned back a few hours later while I was outside with my own dogs.” “I was a little worried at first since I wasn’t sure if he was nice, and I was outdoors with three of my crippled Chihuahuas at the time.” I chased him away so I could get my dogs inside and secure my property’s gate. Randy had already crawled underneath my fence and returned to my property by the time I had brought my dogs inside!”

Even though he was a little nervous, Randy somehow knew that the rescue was where he needed to be to get the help he needed, so he came back, and this time, he stayed.

“As soon as I put Randy on a leash, it became very apparent that he had a wonderful disposition,” Graham said. “He didn’t seem to understand affection or belly rubs, but would press his body up against me anytime I would pet him. I never once heard him bark — he was so calm!”

Randy was instantly identified by Graham, who realized she’d seen him about the farm previously. She believed he belonged to someone because he wore a collar, but when she observed him getting into the garbage cans of her neighbors, she became curious as to who he truly belonged to and began asking about him.

She went Randy to other residences in the area when she had him safely in her care, knocking on doors and inquiring whether he belonged to anybody. She put out fliers around the area when no one claimed him. She had a sense he didn’t have a family, but she wanted to be prepared in case he did.

Poor Randy was covered in fleas and had some injuries that needed addressing when he showed up at the rescue. Graham took him to the vet, where he got the care he needed and was also scanned for a microchip. When Graham saw he didn’t have one, she quickly set about trying to find him the best home. She couldn’t keep him herself, but luckily, she knew people who could help.

“I filed a discovered dog report with the local sheriff’s office and animal control, as well as posting Randy on my rescue’s social media,” Graham said.

“I’m now constructing a ‘small house town’ at my farm to house my rescue animals, and there was no place for another dog when Randy arrived.” Fortunately, one of my foster mothers offered to take him in. He’s smitten with his foster mother, and she’s indicated an interest in adopting him after his hold term expires.”

“I don’t know how Randy found my house or why he was so insistent on returning, but I am so glad he did,” Graham said. “He is now being spoiled daily in his foster-to-adopt home, and I couldn’t be happier for him. He is the sweetest dog and deserves a loving home that will cherish him forever.”
