Numerous animals are unjustly abandoned by their families every year. Despite the fact that perpetrators of such heinousness and brutality occasionally escape prosecution, police in New Mexico are hopeful that this instance will be different.
The public, however, must help them.
On Tuesday morning, Santa Fe animal services were alerted to a Dunkin’ Donuts where, according to witnesses, a man had stopped in after dumping his dog in the parking lot out front.
Surveillance footage failed to capture the man’s license plate number, but his face was clearly caught on camera — as was the heartbreak of what he was doing.
“The male opened his door and let the dog out of the vehicle with the note attached to its neck,” Santa Fe police said in a release. “The man then proceeded to go into Dunkin’ Donuts and order a cup of coffee. The dog followed the man from the vehicle to the front door of the business but was ignored by the man.”
Then the man drove away, leaving the dog behind.
The dog’s collar had a letter on it that read as follows:
“I’m unbound. I’m giving birth.”
Police continue to look for the individual who abandoned the dog and are urging anybody with information to contact them. Meanwhile, the dog is now being cared after by Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society and is reportedly doing OK.
“She likes people and is outgoing. I actually spent the day with her “The Dodo was informed by the shelter’s PR representative, Murad Kirdar. “It is still too early to determine if she is pregnant. However, the owner’s main priority was not the dog’s protection.”
The shelter informed its followers online: “Sadly, tales like these are all too often. But it’s people like you that genuinely care and improve these creatures’ lives.”
So perhaps this puppy will get the forever home she deserves at some point.
